Basham, Crowder earn Embarq Scholar award

This weeks male Embarq Scholar Athlete of the Week is Sullivan Central football standout Michael Crowder, He is intimidating on the field, he's blasted open holes for Cougar running backs earning all-NET and All-Conference honors. He's a 3 time Cougar offensive lineman of the year, and he's the 15th best high school center in the nation according to ESPN.

Crowder's numbers are equally imposing in the classroom. He owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average.  He's the Vice-President of the Math Honor Society and he's in too many clubs and activities to mention. He practically has his pick of colleges and plans to attend either Cornell or Princeton.   He'll study government and pre-law.

This week's female Embarq Scholar Athlete of the Week is Abingdon senior Elizabeth Basham.  This star on the Falcon volleyball team really excels on the basketball court.  She recently accepted a full ride scholarship to play basketball at Virginia Tech.  She picked the Hokies over ETSU.  She'll move from center to small forward in college

Basham balances her athletic success with strong numbers in the classroom. It's a discipline that's been instilled in her throughout high school, and the key to her success is a strict routine.

Congratulations to Sullivan Central's Michael Crowder and Abindgon's Elizabeth Basham, this weeks Embarq Scholar Athletes of the Week.
